The MTA Live Subway Map encourages screen readers and keyboard navigation to make it easier for everyone to find their way around New York City.
The MTA Live Subway Map works with the following browsers and screen
readers:
- Safari with VoiceOver on Mac
- Chrome with ChromeVox
- Firefox with NVDA or JAWS on Windows
To use the computer keyboard:
1. Open map.mta.info
2. Press Tab until the map is in focus
3. Navigate the map or filter by specific train lines:
- Move around the map with the arrow keys
- Zoom in or out of the map by pressing the Plus (+) or Minus (-)
keys
- View a specific train line by tapping the key with that line’s
number or letter
- Change the current time filter by pressing the (T) key to see
service in the future
4. View the entire menu of keyboard shortcuts by opening map.mta.info and press the Shift + ? key combination or use the Tab key to navigate to the keyboard shortcuts section
To find accessible stations:
1. Open [placeholder accessibility filter link]
- Accessible stations are highlighted, while non-accessible
stations are faded out.
Note that accessible stations show a combination of elevators, escalators, and ramps for station access. Not all train lines at a given station will be ADA-accessible. Please refer to https://new.mta.info/elevator-escalator-status for more information about the accessibility of specific train stations and train lines.
